Ending a tenancy in Denmark: notice and moving arrangements
Read your own tenancy agreement first. It sets out notice terms and may include a fixed term or a period when termination is restricted. Give notice in writing and keep evidence of when the landlord receives it.
Check the agreement before choosing a date
Review the notice period, when it starts, fixed-term or non-termination clauses, the required way to give notice and any restoration terms. The lease and applicable tenancy law both matter; different contracts and property types can have different rules.
Make the notice clear and keep a copy
Include the property address, your name and intended departure date, and ask the landlord for confirmation. If several people are named on the lease, check whether they all need to sign. Retain the sent notice and confirmation.
Plan moving, cleaning and inspection
Once the final tenancy date is confirmed, schedule the move, cleaning and move-out inspection. Allow time between emptying the home and handing it back if possible. Use our guides to move-out inspections and rental restoration.
Get advice for a disagreement
Your lease, property type and circumstances affect the rules. This is general information, not legal advice. A tenants’ organisation or the relevant rent board guidance may help if you disagree with the landlord.
Official sources and further checks
Rules and requirements can depend on your circumstances. Use the relevant official source rather than treating a general moving guide as individual legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find my notice period?
Check your lease, including special conditions, alongside applicable tenancy law.
Should notice be written?

What follows after notice?
Usually moving out, cleaning and the move-out inspection, with any restoration assessed under the contract and rules.
