Moving a bed and mattress: dismantling, protection and setup
A bed can include a frame, base, drawers, headboard and mattress with different handling needs. Remove bedding, check the construction and measure rigid parts against doors, stairs and lift access before the day.
Dismantle only as intended
Follow the maker’s instructions for the headboard, frame, sides and legs. Photograph connections where useful, keep fittings in labelled bags and retain the instructions. Empty storage drawers and protect separate parts.
Protect the mattress
Use a clean suitable mattress cover and keep it dry and off dirty ground. Do not bend it beyond the manufacturer’s instructions; spring or layered mattresses may be damaged internally. Avoid heavy boxes pressing on it.
