Packing fragile items: protect each item and fill the gaps
Wrap fragile belongings individually and cushion all sides. Choose a suitable box, fill gaps and mark it clearly. Decide whether small particularly valuable items are better kept with you.
Use layers of protection
Use appropriate tissue or packing paper at the surface and suitable cushioning outside. Smaller sturdy boxes with protection above and below are easier to handle. Fill voids and write Fragile on several sides.
Lamps, shades and vases
Remove bulbs and shades and pack them separately. Give a lampshade its own box with light protective paper and no heavy load above it. Support hollow vases inside with paper before wrapping the outside.
Discuss art and valuables beforehand
Tell the company about particularly delicate or valuable belongings and ask about handling and insurance. Keep small valuables and important documents separately if you prefer to transport them yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Should I move valuables myself?

How should a lampshade be packed?
Separately in a suitable box with light protective paper and nothing heavy pressing on it.
Should fragile contents be mentioned in my enquiry?
