Rental flat handover: a final moving-out checklist
Before handing back the flat, empty it, clean according to the agreement, prepare for inspection and record the condition. Check the agreed handover date rather than assuming it is the same as moving day.
Work through the final checklist
Keep notice and confirmation, and check that the property is empty including cellar and loft rooms. Complete agreed cleaning, clarify any restoration, photograph rooms, record meters and return all keys with a record or receipt.
Use the inspection to clarify the condition
Attend where possible and ask questions about what is recorded. Keep your move-in evidence and handover documents together. Read the guides on notice, cleaning, inspection and restoration for the separate stages.
Keep one handover record
Bring the lease, move-in record and any agreed work to the walkthrough. Take clear photos of the empty rooms and note the meter readings, date and keys returned. Keep any report with the written notice and the landlord’s confirmation.
If you disagree with an entry, ask for the point to be recorded and keep your own explanation. Do not rely on memory to reconstruct it later. Our move-out inspection guide explains what to prepare; the deposit guide covers the separate question of deductions.
