What not to pack in moving boxes
Not everything belongs in an ordinary moving box. Hazardous products may be restricted, while valuables, essential medicines and documents should remain under your own control.
Keep these out of the general load
Do not hide restricted or personal-essential items among ordinary belongings.
- Gas cylinders, fuel, solvent-based paint and other flammable products.
- Chemicals and strong cleaning products that the carrier cannot accept.
- Perishable food.
- Cash, jewellery, passports, contracts and valuable personal documents.
- Medication and other essentials needed in the next few days.
Check the company’s rules before packing
Ask what the carrier can legally and practically transport, and read its terms. Product type matters, so do not assume all paints or cleaning products are acceptable. Plants need their own transport plan, not a sealed ordinary box.
Dispose of unwanted hazardous products correctly
Check the municipality’s arrangements for hazardous waste such as paint and chemicals. Do not put such products into ordinary boxes to avoid dealing with them before moving.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pack paint?
Check the product and the company’s restrictions first. Flammable products should not go in the ordinary load.
What about plants?
Use appropriate ventilated protection and ask the mover beforehand. Plants normally should not be sealed into standard boxes.
Where should important documents go?
In a secure bag or folder that you carry yourself.
