Appliance movers: preparation and safe disconnection
Empty and defrost refrigeration appliances in advance, drain hoses and follow each appliance’s manual. Agree responsibility for disconnection and reconnection before the day; some connections need an appropriate professional.
Fridges and freezers
Empty, defrost and dry the appliance. Leave the door open appropriately while it dries to avoid odour. Check the manufacturer’s transport position and waiting instructions before switching it on again; do not assume the same rule fits every model.
Washing machines and dishwashers
Drain remaining water from filters and hoses according to the manual. Use transport bolts where the machine has them and the manufacturer requires them. Secure loose hoses and cables so they do not trail or damage the appliance.
Agree the connection work
Ask whether the mover’s service includes disconnection or reconnection, and arrange a qualified person where needed. A transport quote alone does not confirm that installation work is included.
Frequently asked questions
Should a fridge travel upright?
That is commonly recommended, but follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the particular model.
What are transport bolts?
Fittings used on some washing machines to secure the drum during transport. Check the machine’s manual.
Will movers reconnect appliances?
It varies. Ask explicitly and arrange any necessary professional work separately.
